Autism in Schools!
Supporting SEND in Schools with SENDAC!
We are delighted to announce that SENDAC have been asked to set up mini parent carer forums in 6 schools across Cumbria, as part of the Autism in Schools Project! So keep a look out for us developing those mini groups in your child’s school!
These forums will be informal talk sessions with a coffee (and lets be serious, very likely cake!) with one or two of our SENDAC Parent Reps and Parents of children who have special educational needs and disabilities in those schools. This is a way for us to get to know each other, have talks about how you feel your school is supporting your child’s needs, what your relationship is like with the school and how we can improve!
Why are these sessions important?
We are hoping to improve the relationship between parent carers and schools/school staff, as this relationship is so unbelievably important to parent carers and SEND children.
We are going to do this by:
• Talking to parent carers about how they feel
• Highlighting area’s needed for improvement in those schools, in order to best support SEND children’s needs.
• Finding out what’s working well in the schools
• Working together to improve communication between the schools and parent carers
• Allowing parents a platform where they can openly speak about the issues they are facing
• The 6 schools have signed an MOU, and by doing this they have shown a commitment to strengthening partnerships with SEND families
• And lastly having a friendly environment for parent carers to just chat, relax and speak to others who understand

SENDAC are also able to provide Training for parent carers through these sessions depending on their wants/needs!
Come & join us, we hope to see you there!
